As you know (and if you don’t know, you will), the Tric Agency loves to push past comfortability in our clients’ content, designs, and presence. We have a team of amazing photographers and videographers to help capture content for our clients. BUT in a phone first world, we love using our iPhones for capturing some of the best content.

So, we decided to share our secrets and tips. We present to you: A Content Creator’s Guide to Creating High Quality iPhone Content

Pre-production

This step is extremely important for any content shoot. This is the first step you take to organize your thoughts, ideas, what trends you’ll be executing, etc. Here is how we break down this step:

Planning prep

  • Brainstorm concepts to guide your shoot
  • Pull audios you want to use
  • Plan out any transitions you want to execute and how you’ll achieve it
  • Create a shot list of desired photos/videos you want to capture

Equipment prep

  • Will you need a tripod?
  • Will you need a gimbal?
  • Clear out unnecessary items to free up storage before filming

Filming

Time to make the magic happen. This seems self explanatory, but there’s still some preparation that goes into this step.

Frame Balancing

  • Keep your hand steady to avoid shaky videos
  • Pay attention to things in the frame → do you want them centered, left or right justified?

Setting the Stage

  • Clear out unattractive objects in the background of the shot
  • Make sure the area is tidied up, free of clutter, etc.
  • Use props if applicable
  • Ensure lighting is optimal

Filming

  • Utilize portrait or cinematic mode to help enhance shots
  • Add movement to shots by panning with wide shots, following the object in frame, using subtle movements, etc.
  • Utilize time lapse effects to show a process, creation, etc. in a more powerful way
  • Make sure all background noises are silenced as best as possible
  • Make sure you pause in between videos to make for a seamless transition between clips
  • Get extra content… just in case!

Post-production

This is where you piece together all of the amazing content you captured into the final product

Editing

  • Edit out “dead times” in your video clips for pacing of video
  • Use editing apps on your phone or in-apps to help assist with editing
  • Add text overlays, VOs, graphics, transitions, etc. if necessary
  • Save video to your phone from editing app before applying sound
  • Add in trending sound of choice based on the platform it’s going on

Practice makes perfect with video editing and content creation… so have fun and learn from your mistakes 🙂
