video marketing: how to stop the scroll
When thinking about advertisements, do you think of a flier in the mail or a reel on Instagram or a quick video on TikTok? With billions of people watching videos daily across Youtube, TikTok, and Instagram, companies have had no choice but to turn to video marketing to stay relevant – and ultimately stop the scroll.
What is video marketing?
Slack is like AIM or DMs… but make it corporate. Communication is imperative in our roles, whether that be with each other or with our clients. Our team utilizes Slack to communicate with one another throughout the work day.
what makes video marketing so effective?
Part of the reason video marketing is so effective is that it engages the audience faster. The videos contain visuals, audio, and storytelling, which makes it easier to convey information and emotion. Due to our short attention spans, a quality video will interest viewers and engage them in seconds.
Video content allows brands to create an emotional connection with viewers. Videos show off your brand’s personality by using reviews, story-times, or behind the scenes content. This helps build trust and loyalty by showing “never before seen” sides of your brand. Videos are one of the most versatile forms of media and can be shared over most platforms. Quality videos can be used on social media, emails, your website, or even a commercial. Switching to video marketing allows you to further your presence while becoming more memorable.
what will make your videos excel?
First thing’s first: start by knowing your audience. It’s crucial that your video aligns with your audience’s preferences as personalization increases engagement. To keep your audience engaged, try to keep the video short and sweet. *cue Sabrina Carpenter reference here*
Second thing: many viewers tend to scroll if a video is long, so try keeping it under a minute, or breaking it into multiple shorter videos with a hook to make them come back for more. Speaking of hooks, viewers also tend to scroll if they are not hooked within the first few seconds. Try to start with a question or visual that will keep them for at least 10 seconds so they’re more likely to watch the whole video.
Third thing: if your goal is to increase sales or gain followers, you should encourage viewers to click a link and/or subscribe. This is called a CTA or call-to-action.
Lastly: try different video formats. This is the fun part of video marketing. You can film tutorials, product demonstrations, day-in-the-life, do a Q&A, and more! Use analytics to see how they are performing and which ones you should keep creating.
what brands excel at video marketing?
Duolingo is killing it this year with their video marketing. The popular language-learning platform that offers free, gamified lessons in different languages has found their audience and made the most of it. They have directed their videos towards the younger audience and take advantage of every single trend possible, such as Tiktok dances, sing-alongs, and livestreams. They have grown in popularity to where they have created merch and their mascot does pop-ups across the country.
Scrub Daddy has a similar technique but takes it one step further. The cleaning sponge brand makes trendy videos, responds to tons of comments, and collaborates with other brands. For example, they recently worked with Crocs and Dunkin Donuts. By doing this, they have created two new products and opened themselves to a much bigger audience while showcasing other brands.
