Keeping up with the trends
Trends, Trends, Trends. I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but they really are the most important thing to keep up with… and not to be confused with Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Picture this: It’s 2025 but you’re still posting those “Keep Calm and blah blah blah” memes from 2011 while your competitors are hopping on the latest TikTok trends, and riding the algorithm straight to an engagement goldmine.
Trends aren’t just fun little moments – they’re the secret sauce to staying relevant. Trends can range from audio clips, to video formats, to platform updates. Keeping up with trends isn’t optional, it’s survival.
So, if you’re still pretending trends don’t matter, grab a coffee and keep reading. Your social media presence depends on it.
It’s easy to say why it’s important to keep up with trends, but the real question is… how do we do it? It requires a mix of proactive research, hands-on experimentation, and community engagement.
Follow Industry Leaders & Trendsetters
Keep an eye on influencers, social media experts, and trendsetting brands in your niche. If you see a video that catches your eye and think it can be applicable to your business… do it! You can also follow accounts like @SocialMediaToday for real-time insights.
Use Social Media Daily
Being chronically online is one of the easiest ways to stay up to date with trends because you get to see new and emerging content when it happens. Scrolling through TikTok, Instagram Reels, and X (formerly Twitter) will help you to spot emerging trends. Make sure to pay attention to hashtags, audios, and content formats that are growing in popularity on these platforms.
But, we don’t recommend increasing screentime.
Analyze Competitors and Audience
Analyzing your competitors and audience behaviors is crucial for staying on the pulse of trends. That way you can create relevant, high-performing content while avoiding wasted efforts.
Social media moves fast, and if you’re not first, you’re last (or whatever Ricky Bobby said). No matter what the trend may be, stay sharp, stay curious, and for the love of engagement, please stay on trend. Your audience (and your analytics) will thank you.
